"In
the well-cast, expertly acted and flawlessly directed production
[The Baby Dance] at the Schoolhouse Theater in Croton Falls,
the issues and personalities hit with unexpected force -- from the
deliberately comic start to the unsettling climax. " -- Edward
Buroughs, The Journal News
"...[Carmen]
Lamar is heartbreaking as the desperate mother-to-be. [Rachel,
The Baby Dance]" -- Chesley Piemmons, Danbury News Times
"The
women are the strongest performers in this production [The Baby
Dance]..."
-- Campbell Robertson, The New York Times
"But
Carmen Lamar is brilliant as Monica [Maids of Honor]. Her
statuesque beauty, waspish tongue, intelligence, drive and sometimes
"hard" exterior hides a vulnerable, hyper-vigilant little
girl still frightened of her father's violence, though he's been
dead all these years. Her slow discovery that she doesn't have to
be so amored all the time is a joy." --Arlene McKanic, OOBR
"Carmen
Lamar works physical wonders as Corrinna Stroller a beautiful actress
[The House of Blue Leaves]...Her problem is she's secretly
deaf. Her attempts to pretend she can hear and engage in conversation
are hysterical." --Edward
Buroughs, The Journal News, NY.
Carmen's
writing project
"A Self Untitled" is a fictionalized play based upon the
paintings and diaries of real-life New England artist Beatrice Turner.
In the summer of 1913, Beatrice is young, beautiful and talented.
She is enticed by her art teacher to pursue a career as a professional
painter. His encouragement ultimately causes havoc in the Turner
household as the secret between father and daughter is revealed.
The issues are timeless and piercingly resonant even today. Stay
tuned!
